Storey Park

History and Location

As Meridian's oldest municipal park, Storey Park has been a community fixture since 1980. Named after former Mayor Don Storey, this 14-acre green space sits at the intersection of Main Street and Franklin Road. It's perfectly positioned near downtown Meridian, the historic Meridian Dairy Barns, and the buzzing Meridian Speedway. Thanks to its central location, the park has become the go-to spot for community gatherings, including the lively annual Meridian Dairy Days celebration and 4th of July festivities that bring the whole city together.

Recreational Facilities

Storey Park offers a variety of recreational options. With its generous open play areas, sports fields, and playground equipment, it's a natural gathering place for families and active folks alike. The Meridian Pool features water slides that provide relief during Idaho's warm summer months. The pool welcomes visitors from 6AM to 10PM daily, giving you plenty of time to splash around regardless of your schedule.

Playgrounds

Kids have their pick of two playgrounds with equipment suited for various age groups. You can find multiple slides ranging from gentle slopes to more adventurous heights, swing sets (including baby swings and a fun two-seater option), and several climbing structures. Little ones particularly enjoy the sandbox area where they can dig and build to their heart's content. Just a heads up - on particularly hot days, parts of the playgrounds get limited shade, so morning or evening visits might be more comfortable during summer months.

Storey Bark Park

For dog owners, The Storey Bark Park is a well-maintained off-leash area where your four-legged friends can run free and socialize. Thoughtfully designed with separate sections for large and small dogs, it ensures safe play for pups of all sizes. Your dogs can challenge themselves on various agility equipment including tunnels, ramps, weave poles, and hoop jumps - excellent for burning off that extra energy. The park provides waste bags to help keep the area clean, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the space.

Picnic Areas

Planning a gathering? The park offers two reservable picnic shelters equipped with tables, power access, and charcoal grills. These spaces can accommodate groups of up to 200 people depending on which shelter you choose. If you're just dropping by for an impromptu picnic, you can use these shelters on a first-come, first-served basis when they're not reserved. Throughout the park, you'll also find numerous picnic tables nestled under mature shade trees, creating perfect spots for a relaxed meal or a quiet moment with a book.

Sports Facilities

Sports enthusiasts have plenty to keep them active at Storey Park. The reservable baseball and softball fields, including the Mo Brooks Field with evening lighting, are meticulously maintained and host regular games throughout the season. If baseball isn't your thing, try your hand at the tennis courts or test your aim at the horseshoe pits - both offer great ways to enjoy some friendly competition in the fresh air.

Amenities and Accessibility

You can find clean, well-maintained restrooms conveniently located near the playground areas, along with drinking fountains scattered across the grounds. Navigating the park is relatively easy thanks to the paved sidewalks that connect different areas. While the park is a short walk from downtown Meridian, be aware that parking can fill up quickly during popular events and peak times. It's also worth noting that some visitors have mentioned limitations regarding ADA parking and the number of curb cutouts available for those using mobility equipment.
