About the Location
Serene Lakeside Escape
Tucked away along the shores of Lake Springfield, Beach Park spans a modest 4.78 acres in Springfield, Illinois. You'll come across this secluded place across Long Bay Drive from Center Park, right next to the Lindsay Bridge Boat Launch.
What makes this spot special? For starters, it's notably less crowded than other lakeside parks in the area. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle while enjoying nature's calm, this secluded spot offers a peaceful experience.
On the Water
Water enthusiasts, take note: Beach Park houses a well-maintained boat ramp that's well-suited for launching everything from small fishing boats to graceful sailboats. Fishing is also quite popular here, with the shoreline offering plenty of accessible spots to cast your line.
The park's unobstructed lake views make wildlife watching particularly rewarding. And if you're a photography buff or just appreciate natural beauty, don't miss the sunset viewing opportunities here. The evening light playing across Lake Springfield creates beautiful scenes - it's considered one of the nicer sunset spots around the lake.
Park Features
Planning a small gathering? Beach Park offers several picnic tables scattered around the grounds, including one covered table near the beach house that provides welcome shade on sunny days.
The park provides seasonal restrooms, but be aware that during off-season months, you might find portable facilities instead. An interesting feature is the tunnel that connects the boat launch area to the beach house side, making it easy to explore both sections of the park.
A Bit of History
Interestingly, the park once featured a swimming beach, however it's been closed for decades now. You can still see remnants of this past life, with a fence now standing between the sandy area and the grassy sections of the park.
Part of Something Bigger
Beach Park belongs to the broader Lake Springfield park system - a network of eight public parks managed by City Water, Light, and Power (CWLP). Together, these parks create a wonderful recreational resource encircling Lake Springfield, which is an important water source for central Illinois.
The park's generous grassy areas - both around the beach house and along the lakeshore - are meant for walking dogs or enjoying a leisurely stroll while taking in those peaceful lake views.
