About the Location
A Slice of Springfield History
Located in Springfield, Illinois, David T. Lawless Park might be compact, but it packs a meaningful punch. This little 5.7-acre space is maintained by the Springfield Park District and got its current name in 2012 to honor David T. Lawless - a beloved local baseball coach whose dedication to Springfield's youth left a lasting impression on the community.
Play Ball! (And Other Fun Stuff)
Though small, this park offers several useful amenities. The highlight? Two well-maintained ball fields great for baseball and softball enthusiasts. The Springfield Park District keeps these fields in good shape, and they come alive during spring and summer with school competitions and friendly games.
Heading over for a casual game? Just remember to bring your own bases and home plate - they're not always set up for impromptu matches. The fields offer a laid-back setting whether you're playing in an organized event or just tossing a ball around with friends.
Take a Breather
Not into sports? No problem. This park has a tranquil vibe that's excellent for simply unwinding. You can find picnic areas and a shelter where you can enjoy a packed lunch or just sit back and watch the world go by.
The open grassy spaces surrounding the ball fields give you plenty of room to spread out a blanket, play frisbee, or just soak up some vitamin D on a sunny day.
Good to Know
Like all parks in the Springfield Park District, there are some common-sense rules in place - no firearms, no bringing your own alcohol, and please don't vandalize anything (obviously).
Getting here is easy thanks to ample parking available for both solo visitors and teams. The park welcomes early birds from 6AM to 10PM most days, however Saturday sleepyheads get a break with an 8AM opening time.
Part of Something Bigger
While David T. Lawless Park might not be the biggest or flashiest green space in town, it's a valuable piece of Springfield's network of parks. Its convenient location near other outdoor facilities makes it an accessible spot for the community.
This modest park provides Springfield residents with a convenient place to gather, play, and relax close to home.
