About the Park
Historic Origins
Bayard Park holds the distinction of being Evansville's first neighborhood park. This 10-acre green space was donated in 1901 by Mrs. Martha Orr Bayard, widow of banker Samuel Bayard, with the condition that it be landscaped by her and maintained perpetually by the city.
The park's historical significance complements the surrounding Bayard Park Historic District, which is known for its charming architecture, including early 20th-century homes.
Amenities and Recreation
The park serves as a modest yet functional green space for recreation and relaxation. It features walking paths that wind through the area, a playground ideal for children, and picnic areas perfect for family gatherings or casual outings.
The park's design makes it accessible for leisurely activities and offers an open, serene environment nestled within the broader neighborhood.
Community Value
As a central part of its community, Bayard Park underscores the importance of preserving neighborhood spaces for public use and enjoyment.
Its amenities provide residents and visitors with opportunities to engage in outdoor activities while connecting with the heritage of the area.
