About the Location
A Tranquil Space in West Indianapolis
Tucked away in the West Indianapolis neighborhood, McCarty Triangle Park is a modest 1.4-acre green space with a distinctive triangular shape. This little park has been a popular spot for locals to gather and unwind for years.
A Glimpse of the Past
Before recent changes, this cozy park offered the simple pleasures of neighborhood recreation: a half-sized basketball court where friendly games unfolded, a playground where children's laughter filled the air, and a swing set that sent kids soaring toward the sky. Mature trees stood guard around the edges, creating a natural border and welcome shade during Indiana's warmer months.
Fresh Beginnings Underway
Since 2023, McCarty Triangle has been getting a major facelift as part of a city-wide refresh funded by the American Rescue Plan.
The vision for the renewed park includes some exciting additions: a modern playground featuring synthetic turf (goodbye, muddy shoes!), a full-sized basketball court for more competitive play, a covered picnic shelter meant for family gatherings regardless of weather, freshly paved walking paths, and new trees to enhance the park's natural beauty.
As of late 2024, patience is still the name of the game - construction delays due to permitting issues and site complications have kept much of the area behind fences and under construction. The transformation is taking longer than expected, but promises to be worth the wait.
Why This Park Matters
In this residential neighborhood, McCarty Triangle provides a convenient space where kids can play safely and adults can enjoy fresh air and exercise close to home.
Many locals have expressed that they're looking forward to the park reopening and having an improved space to connect with neighbors and nature.
The modernized McCarty Triangle Park aims to be more accessible for everyone - from energetic children to those with special needs - once construction is complete.
