Mount Trashmore is a unique recreational area located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The park is built on a former landfill site that has been transformed into a community asset.

The main feature is a large hill, formed from compacted layers of waste and clean soil, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Trail System

The park features two primary trails. The Stumptown Trail is designed for hiking and running, stretching approximately 1 mile in length.

This trail includes boardwalks and stairs, with some sections having steep grades that provide a challenging workout for visitors.

For mountain biking enthusiasts, the Trashmore Trail offers an exciting downhill experience. This gravity-fed flow trail is about 4,000 feet long and includes various features typical of flow trails.

It's designed specifically for bicycles and is not open to hikers or runners.

Access Information

The Overlook Trail serves as a multi-use path for both cyclists and pedestrians. At about 3,400 feet in length, it provides the shortest route to the summit of Mount Trashmore.

Access to the trails requires visitors to check in at the on-site recreation building. The park operates seasonally, typically opening in spring and closing in late fall or early winter, depending on weather conditions.

Environmental Significance
