About the Location
A Green Oasis on Davenport's West Side
Located on the west side of Davenport, Emeis Park sprawls across 210 acres of gently rolling hills. Since opening in 1961, this spacious park offers a blend of golf and recreation without the crowds you might expect - even on weekends, you'll likely find plenty of room to breathe.
A Golf Course with Bragging Rights
At the heart of Emeis sits an 18-hole, par 72 golf course stretching over 6,500 yards of challenging terrain. Designed by the talented C.D. Wagstaff, the course made quite the entrance into the golfing world when Arnold Palmer and Gary Player - yes, those legends - christened it with an exhibition match on August 19, 1961.
Covering 155 acres of the park, this isn't just any municipal course. It earned serious credibility by landing on Golf Digest's list of America's Toughest Golf Courses for three consecutive years from 1966-1968. Not too shabby for a city park!
Beyond the Green: Sports for Everyone
Not a golfer? No problem. Emeis Park offers plenty of other ways to break a sweat. Several baseball and softball diamonds host local games throughout the season, but be aware that field conditions can vary depending on recent maintenance.
You'll also find basketball courts, tennis courts, and pickleball courts scattered throughout the grounds, offering options whether you're looking to shoot hoops or serve up some competition.
Family Fun Central
Emeis is particularly good as a family destination. The recently updated playground area features modern equipment that keeps kids entertained for hours. The ninja obstacle course is a standout feature that even five-year-olds can tackle, alongside more traditional play structures.
Planning a gathering? The park's large pavilion offers a clean, spacious shelter great for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or simply a well-organized picnic. You can reserve it ahead of time to guarantee your spot for larger get-togethers.
Playground Paradise
The playground's recent remodel has breathed new life into this corner of the park. While many of the climbing structures target the 5-12 age range, there are slides and swings suitable for little ones and bigger kids alike.
The ninja obstacle course deserves a second mention - it's become something of a local favorite, offering a unique challenge you won't find at most other parks in the area.
The Practical Stuff
Emeis Park provides clean restroom facilities, but like any public space, they occasionally close for maintenance.
For those who enjoy connected green spaces, Emeis marks the western endpoint of the Duck Creek Parkway, linking it to Davenport's broader network of parks and trails. With abundant shade trees throughout, it's an ideal spot for walking your four-legged friend or simply finding a quiet moment with a good book under leafy cover.
