About the Location
Where Nature Meets Community Fun
Located in Davenport, Iowa, Prairie Heights Park spreads across 220 acres of diverse landscape that's become a favorite hangout for locals and curious visitors. This spacious park has a little bit of everything - from active sports areas to peaceful natural spaces where trees provide habitat for local birds.
Trails to Explore
One of our favorite things about this park is its winding trail system in the northern section. It conveniently connects to the Davenport Public Library's Eastern Avenue Branch, making it good for a walk, jog, or just a quiet moment with nature.
We've found that many people don't even realize this retreat is tucked behind the Eastern library - it's one of those places that feels like a delightful discovery when you first stumble upon it.
Play Ball!
If sports are more your thing, you'll appreciate the multiple baseball diamonds within the park. The Miracle Field stands out as something truly special - an all-inclusive baseball field designed for players of all abilities that opened in September 2019.
The diamonds host community events like the Davenport Challenge t-ball league. Just a heads-up if you're visiting for the first time: the fields can be a bit tricky to find within the park's layout, so you might want to grab a park map or ask a friendly local for directions.
Family-Friendly Features
Bringing the kids? The well-maintained playground is a hit with families and grandparents treating their little ones to some outdoor fun. The equipment is clean and in good shape, but you might want to bring sun protection during summer visits as shade is somewhat limited.
In the southern area, you'll discover all the practical amenities that make for a comfortable visit: a concession stand for snacks, clean and spacious restrooms, a drinking fountain to stay hydrated, and a picnic shelter fantastic for family gatherings or community events.
Getting There
You can access the park via Mississippi Avenue or Olde Brandy Lane, both next to the Davenport Public Library. Parking isn't abundant - most people use either street parking or the library lot, which means you might have a short walk to reach the park's features.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 9PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy this clean, well-maintained community space with various amenities and activities.
