Nestled in West Des Moines, Iowa, Quail Cove Park is that perfect little neighborhood retreat when you need a dose of nature without venturing far from home. This peaceful green space offers locals a place to unwind and play, all within the comfort of their community.

Bigger than your standard football field, there's plenty of room to spread out here. One of our favorite features has to be the multi-use trail that winds through the park. Whether you're power-walking after work or teaching the kids to ride bikes on the weekend, the extensive walking loop gives you just enough distance to get moving without overwhelming you. The natural surroundings make it easy to forget you're still in the suburbs.

Recreation Areas

The open grassy areas are great for tossing a frisbee, spreading out a picnic blanket, playing impromptu games, or just cloud-watching on a lazy afternoon.

If you've got kids in tow, Quail Cove has two playgrounds with equipment for different age groups. The littles absolutely love the unique rope jungle gym, while older children tend to gravitate toward the fascinating rock-climbing cliff-face with fossil impressions - it's both fun and sneakily educational! And when the basketball enthusiasts in your family need to shoot some hoops, the basketball courts are ready and waiting.

Amenities

You'll come across plenty of shaded picnic tables and benches scattered around the park. They're perfect spots to enjoy your morning coffee, catch up with a friend, or have lunch with the family without battling the Iowa summer sun.

Need a spot for a small gathering? The park's pavilion with tables provides shelter from unexpected weather and a central meeting point. And yes, there are restroom facilities available - though note they typically close during the winter months.

Maintenance

The City of West Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department keeps Quail Cove in great shape year-round. Their ongoing maintenance ensures this community space remains clean and safe for everyone who stops by to enjoy a little glimpse of outdoor tranquility.
