Historical Significance
Originally known as the Lone Elm Campground, this 155-acre community park served as a key resting point for pioneers traveling along the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California trails during the westward expansion of the 19th century. Travelers often spent their first night west of the Missouri River at this historic site.
Traces of these journeys, including wagon swales, can still be seen today. During the construction of the athletic fields, artifacts dating back to the pioneer era were uncovered, further connecting the present to the area's historic roots.
