The park's baseball and softball fields are definite highlights. Planning a game with friends or the local league? You can reserve these spaces ahead of time. Or if you're feeling spontaneous, just show up and claim them on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Fancy a different kind of ball game? The tennis courts and basketball courts are free to use during regular park hours - no reservations or fees required. Just bring your gear and your A-game.

Amenities and Facilities

If you've got kids in tow, the playground area offers plenty of space for them to burn off energy and make new friends. Meanwhile, the open grassy areas are fantastic for throwing a frisbee, walking your four-legged friend, or simply sprawling out with a good book.

Planning a get-together? The park's picnic shelter and designated picnic areas provide ideal spots for family gatherings or casual outdoor meals. There are also restroom facilities available, however they sometimes could use a bit more TLC in the cleaning department.

Upcoming Improvements

Good news for regular park-goers - Hickory Hills is getting a facelift! Plans are in the works to install new synthetic turf in the swing area and to renovate both the shelter and restrooms.

You'll need to be a bit patient though, as these improvements aren't expected to be completed until 2025. These changes should improve the overall park experience when completed.

Maintenance

It's worth noting that maintenance can be hit-or-miss at Hickory Hills. Some areas occasionally sport unwelcome graffiti (particularly around the shelter), and cleanliness levels can vary throughout the park. Local authorities do work to address these issues as part of their ongoing maintenance efforts, but it's something to be aware of when planning your visit.
