About the Location
Park Overview
Situated in Overland Park, Kansas, Maple Hills Park spans a cozy 9.2 acres within the Stonehedge and Farley view neighborhoods. This little green oasis gives locals plenty of room to breathe, play, and simply enjoy the outdoors. One of its best features is the smooth walking path that loops around the entire park - well-suited for your morning jog, a leisurely evening stroll, or even cruising around on a longboard if that's your thing.
2024 Improvements
2024 brought some exciting updates to Maple Hills. The kiddos can now enjoy a brand-new playground with modern equipment that prioritizes both fun and safety.
For the more competitive visitors, two pickleball courts have been added to the mix. These courts come with good fencing and have quickly become popular with neighborhood players.
Sustainability Features
Maple Hills has some nice sustainability features. The park has a solar-powered shelter and restroom, incorporating renewable energy.
If you're driving an electric vehicle, you'll appreciate the charging stations in the new parking lot. Even the landscaping has gone green with drought-tolerant plants that look beautiful while conserving water - smart thinking in today's climate.
Sports Facilities
Sports enthusiasts will feel right at home here. The park maintains a nice baseball/softball field that you can reserve for organized games or just claim on a first-come basis for some impromptu kickball. Just keep in mind that the field sits fairly close to the street, so you might want to rein in those power hits!
There's also a generous open field that's basically a blank canvas for whatever activity strikes your fancy - frisbee, soccer, or just running around with your dog.
Amenities
The park's covered shelter offers multiple picnic tables and a charcoal grill for outdoor meals. While there's no electricity at the shelter, the shade it provides is worth its weight in gold during those hot summer days.
The recently updated restroom facilities are clean and family-friendly with changing stations for the little ones. Note that these facilities typically close during the winter months, so plan accordingly if you're visiting in the colder season.
Natural Beauty
One of the park's understated charms is its collection of mature trees that cast welcome shadows across the grounds. These leafy giants put on a particularly spectacular show in autumn when their foliage transforms. Finding a shaded spot under one of these trees for a picnic or just to sit with a good book adds to the peaceful vibe that makes Maple Hills special.
