About the Location

A Walk Through History

Nestled in Overland Park, this green space was dedicated in 1981 to honor Thomas S. Stoll, who wasn't just the chairman of the district's Board of Park and Recreation Commissioners - he was the driving force behind making this park a reality before his passing in 1980. What makes the park's origin story interesting is its funding blend: the land was secured back in 1971 using Land and Water Conservation Funds from the U.S. Department of Interior, matched dollar for dollar with local district financing.

Natural Charm

The park's walking trail provides a nice opportunity to spend time in nature. The paved paths curve through scenic surroundings, good for a morning jog or afternoon bike ride. Fancy a bit of fishing? The small fishing pond complete with a bubbling fountain is home to largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish.

Just remember to bring both your Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) fishing permit and state fishing license if you plan to cast a line. The wooded areas scattered throughout provide welcome shade on sunny days and create homes for local wildlife.

Keep your eyes peeled - you might just spot a deer or two wandering through the trees.

Puppy Paradise

Dog owners will appreciate that One of the true highlights here is the seven-acre dog off-leash area, including a separate 1/3-acre section reserved for smaller pups weighing under 25 pounds. This fenced area gives dogs room to run, play, and socialize.

The dog park blends open grassy fields with shaded wooded sections, all connected by a paved trail loop stretching about 2/3 mile. Water fountains designed for dogs and waste stations are available throughout the area. Note that there are weekly maintenance closures to keep everything in top shape.

Sports and Recreation

For the sports enthusiasts, the park houses seven athletic playing fields available through reservation. These fields primarily host adult softball games and youth soccer matches, with the fees helping to fund ongoing park maintenance and development.

Family Fun Zones

The park includes featuring multiple playgrounds designed for different age groups. Two sit side by side - one for smaller children and another for the older kids - with yet another playground located elsewhere in the park.

Scattered throughout are several picnic areas with tables, well-suited for a family lunch or casual get-together. Planning something bigger? Shelters are available for reservation for those special occasions. And yes, there are barbecue grills if you're craving some outdoor cooking.

The Practical Stuff

There's ample parking, including EV charging stations for electric vehicles. Restrooms are available, but they may close during certain seasons.

The park welcomes visitors daily from 5 AM to 10 PM, giving visitors a wide window to use the park.
