Arthur & Betty Verhaeghe Park

History and Origin

The park opened in late summer 2020 and serves as an access point for the Coffee Creek Streamway Trail. The land for the park was donated by Arthur and Betty Verhaeghe of Overland Park, longtime residents and farmers of Johnson County.

Farm-Themed Attractions

The park features a farm-themed playground, which pays homage to the area's agricultural heritage and the Verhaeghe family's farming background. This playground was expanded in late 2021 to provide more recreational opportunities for visitors.

In 2022, the park saw the addition of a community garden initiative. This garden, made possible by a donation from the Verhaeghe family, allows local residents to grow their own vegetables, continuing the nearly 100-year tradition of farming associated with the Verhaeghe name.

Amenities

In addition to the playground, the park includes a picnic shelter with tables, offering a space for gatherings and outdoor meals. The shelter is equipped with electricity and lights, making it suitable for use throughout the day.

Trails and Recreation

Verhaeghe Park is notable for its connection to the Coffee Creek Streamway Trail. This trail stretches 3.4 miles to the east and ends at Switzer Road, providing opportunities for walking, jogging, and cycling.

The 11-acre park is open from 7AM to 8PM year-round, offering visitors a chance to enjoy outdoor activities and nature throughout the seasons.
