About the Location

A Bit of History

In late summer 2020, Arthur & Betty Verhaeghe Park opened its gates, bringing with it access to the Coffee Creek Streamway Trail. The park has a heartwarming backstory - it stands on land donated by Arthur and Betty Verhaeghe, longtime Overland Park residents who farmed in Johnson County for generations.

Farm-Themed Fun

True to its roots, the park features a charming farm-themed playground that honors the area's agricultural heritage and the Verhaeghe family's farming legacy. The playground thoughtfully caters to different age groups with two distinct areas - a cozy spot for the little ones ages 2-5, and a more adventurous section for children 5-10 years old.

Late 2021 saw this spacious playground expanded, adding even more play options. The farm theme gives the space a special character that particularly captivates younger children.

2022 brought a meaningful addition to the park - a community garden. Made possible through the Verhaeghe family's generosity, this garden lets locals grow their own vegetables, beautifully continuing a farming tradition that spans nearly a century with the Verhaeghe name.

What You'll Find

Beyond the playground, you'll discover a picnic shelter complete with tables for family gatherings or casual outdoor meals. With electricity and lighting available, the shelter remains functional from daylight well into the evening hours.

The park is well-equipped with restroom facilities, a grilling area, and drinking water sources - all the essentials for a comfortable visit.

Paths to Explore

One of the park's standout features is its connection to the Coffee Creek Streamway Trail. This 3.4-mile trail extends eastward to Switzer Road, ideal for a refreshing walk, an invigorating jog, or a leisurely bike ride.

Spread across 11 acres, the park offers plenty of open grassy spaces to enjoy and includes a dedicated parking lot for easy access. Open from 7AM to 8PM year-round, this green space invites you to connect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities regardless of the season.
