Park Overview

Tucked away at the corner of 9th and Edgemoor in Wichita, Kansas, you'll discover Edgemoor Park - a sprawling 25.53-acre green space that's been a neighborhood staple since 1962, with an expansion in 1967. With its rolling terrain, this park represents a natural retreat for residents throughout the northeast section of the city.

There's something refreshingly genuine about Edgemoor Park. It's not trying to be flashy or trendy - it's simply a clean, safe space where families gather, kids play, and individuals find a moment of peace in their busy lives. The park has earned a reputation as a reliable community hub for outdoor enjoyment.

Recreation Center

The park features a recreation center that blends seamlessly with the architectural style of the surrounding neighborhoods. The building offers facility rentals, classes, diverse programs, and special events year-round.

If you're planning a weekend gathering, note that the recreation center is available for rent, except during holidays. No matter if you're looking to learn something new or connect with neighbors, their year-round programming has something for everyone.

Sports Facilities

For sports enthusiasts, Edgemoor offers several facilities. The park houses 12 pickleball courts (six with lighting) that have become something of a social hotspot. Drop by in the mornings (8am-12pm) or evenings (5pm-10:30pm), and you'll likely find a friendly community of regular players enjoying free play.

Beyond pickleball, the park offers eight lighted tennis courts, two basketball/multi-use courts (without lighting), and a grass soccer field/softball diamond that keeps things casual with no lighting or formal seating.

Ryan Woodward Memorial Skatepark

The Ryan Woodward Memorial Skatepark adds another dimension to Edgemoor's offerings. Built in 2007 and renamed in 2010, this beginner to intermediate-level skate park carries a special significance.

It honors the memory of Ryan Christopher Woodward, a passionate skateboarder who dedicated himself to maintaining Wichita's skateparks and championing skateboarding culture. While not the biggest in town, this skatepark has character and the right mix of features that keep local skaters coming back.

Splash Pad

During the Kansas summer heat, the splash pad is particularly popular. Open daily from 10am to 8pm during warm months, this free water play area transforms hot afternoons into refreshing fun.

With various fountains and water features spread across a generous space, it's meant for helping kids cool down while parents relax nearby. Remember to leave your four-legged friends at home though - the splash pad area is a no-pet zone.

Playground and Family Amenities

The playground sits atop a sand safety surface, offering a variety of equipment that caters to different age groups. It's well-maintained and provides that classic park experience that never goes out of style.

Seven picnic tables are scattered across the grounds, excellent for impromptu lunch breaks or planned family outings. The open grassy areas invite impromptu games of frisbee, catch, or just cloud-watching on a lazy afternoon.

Dog-Friendly Areas

Edgemoor has become a go-to spot for dog owners in the area. The spacious grounds and walking paths make for perfect daily strolls with your leashed companions. While not an official dog park, the expansive lawns give pets plenty of room to sniff and explore (within leash regulations, of course).

The mix of shade and open areas makes it comfortable for both humans and canines, even during warmer months.

Additional Features

In a nice bit of community planning, Edgemoor Park sits right next to the Ford Rockwell branch library. This convenient pairing means you can easily combine an outdoor adventure with some literary exploration.

Drinking fountains are available around the park, however like most public fountains, their consistency can be hit-or-miss. Public restrooms can be accessed whenever the recreation center is open.

Parking

You won't need to circle endlessly looking for a spot at Edgemoor. The park boasts a paved lot with 162 stalls that rarely reaches capacity, even during peak times. This ample parking makes it easy to access the park.
