Burncoat Park
About Burncoat Park
A Green Retreat in Worcester
Tucked just north of I-290 and Brittan Square, Burncoat Park (formerly North Park) offers 26 acres of peaceful green space in Worcester. What makes this park special is how the landscape rises and falls, creating different experiences as you wander through. If you're looking to escape the usual crowds and find a quieter outdoor spot, this park offers a good alternative.
Water and Wilderness
The heart of Burncoat Park features two natural ponds that change with the seasons. A scenic walking path meanders alongside these water features, meant for those moments when you need to clear your head or simply enjoy being surrounded by nature. When winter arrives, one pond transforms into an ice skating rink - a charming tradition that's been happening since 1923.
The park's terrain is anything but flat, with a 47-foot elevation change that adds character to your visit. Head up to the highest point along Davidson Road on the north edge for some of the best views around. In winter, this spot becomes the park's popular sledding hill, filled with laughter and the swoosh of sleds on fresh snow.
A Park with History
Burncoat has roots going back to 1889, when nearly 40 acres were purchased from various landowners. The park has evolved over time, with the creation of Western Pond in 1898 and the addition of the charming Boulder Bridge in 1901.
In 1962, the park's footprint changed when part of the land was used for the construction of the I-290 expressway.
Recreation for Everyone
No matter if you're in the mood for a peaceful walk, a family picnic, or seasonal activities, Burncoat Park has options for you. The paved paths make for easy walking and biking in a setting that feels removed from city life, despite being right in Worcester.
Four-Legged Friends Welcome
