About the Location
Location and Overview
Island Park is a picturesque 7-acre riverside park situated on the Huron River in Ann Arbor. It offers visitors a tranquil natural setting with a variety of amenities and scenic features.
Accessible via a footbridge, the park is a popular spot for picnics, casual strolls, wading, kayaking, and family outings. The park connects to nearby Fuller Park through a wooden bridge, enhancing its accessibility.
Facilities and Amenities
The park features a classic Greek Revival shelter and shaded areas that provide a serene backdrop for activities like parties or even small weddings. Island Park Shelter B is one of the larger facilities and includes electricity, while other smaller shelters add to the park's charm.
Scenic picnic tables, grills, and open green spaces make it an ideal spot for outdoor meals. Seasonal restrooms ensure convenience for visitors.
Recreation and Play Areas
Island Park includes a playground suitable for younger children, equipped with slides, swings, and other play structures, all set on a wooden mulch surface. Though the playground enjoys shade from nearby trees, some areas are sunnier.
The shallow and slow-moving water areas in the Huron River are perfect for supervised wading or exiting a tubing trip from the nearby Argo Cascades. The park also hosts a canoe and kayak launch, which provides improved access to the Huron River Water Trail.

During warmer months, the park is a hub for community events such as meetings and medieval reenactments by the Barony of Cynnabar. Visitors can enjoy viewing or participating in such cultural activities while surrounded by the calming ambiance of the river.
Paved trails within and around the park offer opportunities for walking and enjoying the natural surroundings.
