Park Overview

Tucked into the corner of West Philadelphia Street and Third Avenue in Detroit's Piety Hill neighborhood, McDuffy Park is a treasured green retreat for locals. Once known as Philadelphia Park, this space was renamed to honor Antonio McDuffy, a passionate community champion whose dedication to the area lives on through this vibrant gathering spot.

Following recent renovations, the park has doubled to a generous 1.5 acres of community space. It's not just bigger - it's thoughtfully designed with spaces for both quiet reflection and social gatherings.

Renovation Project

The park's transformation came to life through a collaboration between Project EverGreen and the Rocket Community Fund, with local organizations pitching in to create something special. The redesign focuses on inclusivity and sustainability, creating a welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Wandering through McDuffy Park now, you'll find inviting open grass areas fantastic for impromptu games or simply lounging with a good book. New trees provide much-needed shade on sunny days, while improved walking paths make navigating the space a breeze. And yes, there's free WiFi throughout the park - because sometimes you want to stream music while you exercise or check your email between games with the kids.

Park Amenities

The playground area includes two sets of swings (including baby seats for the little ones) and a climbing structure with two slides that's popular with children. What's particularly nice is how the equipment accommodates children of different abilities, ensuring no one feels left out of the fun.

Adults haven't been forgotten in the design either. The park features outdoor fitness equipment including elliptical machines that let you get in a workout while enjoying the fresh air. When it's time to refuel, head to the covered pavilion where you'll come across picnic tables and grilling areas - well-suited for family gatherings or weekend cookouts regardless of whether the sun is shining or there's a light drizzle.

Scattered throughout McDuffy Park, you'll discover comfortable benches ideal for reading or people-watching, convenient bike racks if you've cycled over, and even a horseshoe pit for those feeling a bit competitive. The paved pathway weaving through the grounds ties everything together, creating a neighborhood space for both recreation and community connection.
