About the Location
Athletic Facilities
Sprawling larger than a football field, this well-kept park has plenty of room for whatever group activity you're planning. The park features multiple athletic fields for baseball, softball, football, and soccer.
There's also a mixed-use field and an outdoor basketball court for when you're in the mood to shoot some hoops. The softball fields deserve a special mention - they're particularly well-maintained and host summer rec leagues, making them a hotspot for organized sports throughout the warmer months.
Playground and Trails
Kids can burn off energy at the playground, which features decent equipment with a wood-chip surface for safer tumbles. Truth be told, the play equipment could use some modernizing, and several families have noted the absence of swings - a bit of a letdown for the little ones who love to soar.
The paved trails work well for a leisurely stroll, morning jog, bike ride, or walking your four-legged friend. With easy, flat loops extending up to a mile, you can get your steps in without tackling any challenging terrain. Want to venture further? The park connects to the South Lansing Pathway, which links to the Lansing River Trail at Maguire Park - convenient if you want to go for a longer journey.
Amenities and Accessibility
Benjamin F. Davis Park is ADA-accessible, ensuring everyone can enjoy what it has to offer regardless of mobility challenges. You can find picnic tables scattered throughout, plus bleachers for spectating and restrooms for when nature calls.
Parking is generally plentiful, although heads up - occasional utility work might temporarily limit spaces. One thing to note: while restrooms are available, they're sometimes locked outside of scheduled sporting events, so you might want to plan accordingly.
Nature and Environment
The woodlot has some nice trees and undergrowth bordering the walkways. The well-maintained open spaces across the park mean multiple groups can do their own thing without cramping each other's style.
Dog owners, your leashed companions are welcome to join you, however there's no dedicated fenced area for off-leash play. The open spaces with scattered shade spots provide room for picnics, yoga, or just relaxing outdoors.
