Bethune Park

Bethune Park, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a vibrant neighborhood park situated in the Near North area. This park stands out for its family-friendly ambiance and wide array of amenities. Originally named Grant Park after President Ulysses S. Grant, it was renamed in 1972 to honor Mary McLeod Bethune, a prominent educator and civil rights activist. The park is adjacent to Bethune Community School and the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, emphasizing its community-centered design.

The park boasts a recently updated playground and wading pool, with improvements completed in 2016. The wading pool features a zero-depth entrance, splash-pad-like bubblers, and is surrounded by new benches funded by community support. It operates seasonally in the summer, with hours from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, but it does not have a lifeguard on duty. The playground caters to children of different age groups, providing safe and enjoyable recreational opportunities.

Additionally, Bethune Park offers a basketball court, picnic areas, and a tot lot. The park provides essential facilities like restrooms and drinking fountains to ensure comfort for visitors. Hours of operation extend from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, accommodating a wide range of visitor schedules.
