About the Location
A Piece of Minneapolis History
Set in the Near North community, Cottage Park has been a fixture of Minneapolis life since 1883, making it one of the city's oldest green spaces. This 4.1-acre neighborhood green might be modest in size, but it's rich in history and community spirit.
Play Areas for All Ages
If you're bringing kids along, you'll come across both a full-size playground and a tot lot designed specifically for the little ones. There's a cool bit of local pride here too - back in 2008, Cottage Park became the first North side Minneapolis park to have its playground built with hands-on help from the community.
This wasn't just any installation - neighbors rolled up their sleeves and pitched in, creating a space that truly reflects what local families wanted and needed.
Wander, Relax, Play
The park's distinctive elongated oval shape creates a lovely setting for a casual stroll along its pathways. Need a rest? Take a seat on one of the artist-designed benches scattered throughout - they're not just functional, they're conversation pieces!
Feeling hungry? The picnic area offers several tables where you can enjoy a meal outdoors. Chess enthusiasts will appreciate the dedicated chess table, excellent for an afternoon match under the open sky.
A Neighborhood Treasure
Though it may not be the largest park in the city, Cottage Park provides a much-needed breath of fresh air for the surrounding urban area.
Its presence since the late 19th century has made it both a living piece of neighborhood history and a valued community space where generations of Minneapolis residents have gathered, played, and connected.
