Situated in East Minneapolis, Edward C. Solomon Park spans a generous 45.16 acres of mostly undeveloped land. This lesser-known park combines open fields, rolling hills, wetlands, and a small pond, creating a peaceful natural retreat right in the city. It provides a quiet escape from the urban environment without having to leave the city.

Once airport property, this park has been left largely to nature's devices, with no major development plans on the horizon. The undeveloped nature makes it good for wandering, dog walking, or wildlife observation. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident bald eagle that regularly swoops down to fish in nearby Lake Nokomis - quite the spectacular sight! In autumn, the park transforms with stunning fall colors, making it even more worth the visit.

Outdoor Activities

While it may look unassuming, Solomon Park actually hosts some interesting recreational activities. You can find enthusiasts practicing archery, teams playing rugby, and groups tossing discs in spirited games of ultimate frisbee. When winter blankets the landscape, the frozen pond becomes a neighborhood hotspot for hockey games and casual ice skating.

The park's walking paths are well-maintained and ideal for a daily stroll or jog. Though you might hear some background noise from the nearby freeway, it rarely detracts from the overall experience of connecting with nature.

True to its undeveloped character, Solomon Park keeps amenities minimal. You'll discover just two portable toilets at one end of the park - so plan accordingly!

Many locals have expressed interest in adding more defined walking trails and potentially creating a community garden. The goal is to enhance the park's usability while maintaining its natural charm and wild character.
