About Perkins Hill Park in Minneapolis
Perkins Hill Park is a 3.76-acre public park located in the McKinley neighborhood of North Minneapolis, Minnesota. The park was acquired by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board in 1948, primarily from tax-forfeited land obtained from the state.
Originally intended as a playground for small children, Perkins Hill Park has evolved over the years to offer a variety of recreational amenities. The park features both a full-size playground and a tot lot for younger children. A basketball court provides opportunities for sports enthusiasts.
In 2022, Perkins Hill Park became home to Minneapolis' first pump track, also known as an all-wheel park. This asphalt circuit, approximately 900 feet long, includes banked turns, mounds, and other features designed for use by people of all ages and abilities on bikes, scooters, skateboards, or gliders. The pump track addition was part of improvements funded by the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan.
The park's sloping topography offers green spaces suitable for picnicking, with grills available for visitor use. Trees have been planted throughout the park, though many are still young and provide limited shade. A trail connects the north and south ends of the park, linking park amenities.
Perkins Hill Park is open from 6 am to midnight daily. While the park itself has never been formally named, its moniker comes from the Perkins Hill Addition in which most of the park is located.
