About Thomas Lowry Park in Minneapolis
Thomas Lowry Park is a small, picturesque urban park located in the Lowry Hill neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Originally named Douglas Triangle, the park was renamed in 1984 to honor Thomas Lowry, a prominent figure in the development of Minneapolis' street railway system. The park serves as a peaceful green space amid the bustling city, featuring extensive landscaping, brick pathways, and a variety of trees and shrubs.
The centerpiece of the park is the historic "Seven Pools" fountain, a cascading water feature designed by landscape architect Phelps Wyman in 1924. The fountain consists of seven basins, creating a serene and visually striking element within the park. Adjacent to the fountain is a pergola that adds to the charm and aesthetic appeal of the space. This well-maintained area is especially popular in the summer months, with its best blooms occurring from July to August. The park has also become a favored location for small weddings, family photos, and community gatherings, including the Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association's Ice Cream Social.
Thomas Lowry Park is designed for leisurely walks and moments of quiet reflection, boasting small decorative features and scenic views. Its compact size makes it accessible and easy to navigate, offering a tranquil atmosphere for visitors to enjoy in the center of the city.
