About the Location
Features and Facilities
Spread across 79 acres next to Oakland Middle School in Columbia, Missouri, Albert-Oakland Park offers a refreshing mix of recreational spaces and natural areas that attract locals of all ages year-round.
The park's history is quite interesting - it came together through various donations and land acquisitions, including the C.M. Albert Memorial Park, a 20-acre southern section donated back in 1964.
Splash and Play
The Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center features outdoor pools and water play areas that are great for cooling off during Missouri summers. The pool area has diving boards and what many locals consider the best deep end in town. Fair warning though - on those scorching summer days, expect some crowds as families flock to this popular spot.
For sports enthusiasts, the park offers numerous options: lighted baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, twelve lighted pickleball courts, a lighted tennis court, sand volleyball, and not one but two 18-hole disc golf courses. The pickleball courts have become something of a hotspot, with the lighting making evening games possible - though they tend to fill up pretty quickly after 5pm. The disc golf setup includes over 100 total basket locations across 36 holes, providing variety even for regular players.
Trails and Wild Spaces
For those who prefer a more peaceful outdoor experience, the Bear Creek Trail stretches 4.8 miles, connecting Albert-Oakland to the Columbia Cosmopolitan Recreation Area. The trail has nice views and several rest areas along the way.
There's also a one-mile hard-surface fitness trail complete with 11 exercise stations if you're looking to mix up your workout routine. Keep your eyes open while exploring - it's not unusual to spot deer and other wildlife along the paths.
Places to Gather and Play
Kids have multiple playgrounds to play on, while several picnic shelters with BBQ grills, drinking fountains, and restrooms are available for family gatherings. The pavilions and covered picnic areas - some with umbrella-topped tables - can be used for birthday parties or casual weekend get-togethers.
What makes Albert-Oakland special is how it balances active recreation with quieter pursuits. You can jump into a game one moment and enjoy a peaceful walk along the creek the next.
Community Hub
The park hosts various community events throughout the year, including the Girls On The Run 5K, church socials, work events, and the Family Fun Fest.
With its amenities, accessibility, and parking, Albert-Oakland Park is a popular Columbia green space where you can exercise, relax, enjoy nature, or spend time with friends and family.
