The park honors local figure Thomas E. "Country" Atkins Jr., with land donated by Thomas Atkins III in 2002. Following development, the park was officially opened with a dedication ceremony in 2009.

The park's centerpiece is a state-of-the-art five-field, lighted baseball complex. These quality fields feature irrigation systems and are complemented by batting cages for practice sessions.
