About the Location

A Piece of Kansas City History

Tucked away at the corner of St. John and Brighton Avenues sits Budd Park, a 27.1-acre green space that's been part of Kansas City's landscape since the late 19th century. In 1891, Judge Azariah Budd donated this land, making it the third public park in Kansas City's history.

All these years later, it remains a valued green space for the Northeast Kansas City community.

What You Can Do Here

Budd Park offers a mix of activity and tranquility. While it once featured tennis and croquet courts (very fancy for the 1890s!), today you'll come across modern futsal courts, a winding disc-golf course, and the refreshed Budd Park Pool where locals cool off during those sticky Missouri summers.

The well-maintained trails are excellent for your morning jog or evening stroll. Need a spot for your family reunion or birthday celebration? The shelters operate on a first-come, first-served basis - no reservations needed, just show up and claim your space.

Nature in the City

The park features a collection of towering trees, many of which have been around for generations. These mature trees create welcome shade on hot summer days.

The park has managed to maintain much of its original character, offering a quiet retreat from city life while still meeting modern needs. It's the kind of place where you can bring your dog for a walk, spread out a blanket for an impromptu picnic, or simply sit and enjoy a moment of peace.

For the Whole Family

Kids will make a beeline for the recently updated playgrounds that cater to different age groups. For the more energetic visitors, the street hockey area provides a space to burn off some steam and practice those slap shots.

With its wide open spaces and variety of amenities scattered across the grounds, Budd Park easily accommodates everything from serious exercise to casual family outings. It's a versatile space that continues to serve its community just as it has for over a century.
