About Minor Park
A Slice of History in Kansas City
Tucked away near the Red Bridge Shopping Center, Minor Park spreads across a generous 235 acres of green space that feels worlds away from city life. What's now a public playground for both chill relaxation and active fun was once a farm owned by the Minor family, later gifted to Kansas City in honor of Dr. William E. Minor. Despite being easily accessible, there's something about the dense trees and wide-open spaces that helps you forget you're still in the city.
Where History Meets Romance
One of the coolest features has to be the Old Red Bridge from 1932, which has been transformed into a walkway where the "Love Locks" tradition has taken root. You can bring your own padlock or pick one up at the Minor Park Golf Shop to leave your mark alongside countless other couples - a sweet little ritual that's become quite popular.
History buffs will appreciate the visible swales formed by wagon trains on the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California Trails - actual physical remnants of America's westward expansion right under your feet.
The Blue River winds through the park, creating peaceful fishing spots and kayaking opportunities. If you're lucky, you might spot some deer wandering through, and a few eagle-eyed visitors have even reported seeing bald eagles soaring overhead.
ADSmall-Group Jewelry Making with Wine Tasting in Kansas City
We apply a "farm-to-table" concept to our design approach, making every handbag and accessory from local leather, linen, and wood sources. You will make earrings, bracelets, or card wallets from leather processed right here in Missouri while learning about the story of Kansas City's history in the garment industry and its revitalization in the 21st century.
Trails for Every Explorer
The trail network here is pretty impressive, with both paved and dirt paths snaking through wooded areas along the Blue River. Regardless of whether you're into a casual stroll, a morning jog, or some serious mountain biking (which is particularly good here), you can find your perfect route.
For the more adventurous, these trails connect to the larger Indian Valley Trail System, letting you extend your journey if you're feeling ambitious. Fall is especially magical, when the changing leaves transform the park into a photographer's dream.
The riverbanks offer quiet spots to sit with a book or your thoughts, and if you're into foraging, seasonal mushroom hunting is a thing here too.
Get Your Game On
The Minor Park Golf Course is an 18-hole public course that won't break the bank. It's well-maintained with reasonable rates and particularly friendly for beginners and intermediate players looking to improve their swing.
Not into golf? No problem. You can take your pick from 12 tennis courts, six nicely maintained pickleball courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and even a cricket field. There's also a designated area for flying drones and remote-control planes if that's your thing.
The park opens at 5 AM and closes at midnight daily, but it's probably best enjoyed during daylight hours.
Family-Friendly Fun
If you've got kids in tow, head to the modern playground in the central north section. Multiple picnic areas with shelters are scattered within the grounds, some with lighting and conveniently located near restrooms and water fountains.
The Minor Park Amphitheater comes alive during seasonal events and concerts, while the open grassy areas are meant for throwing a frisbee or spreading out a blanket for a lazy afternoon.
Beyond recreation, the historical markers and interpretive exhibits make this a place where you can have fun while learning something new. Regardless of whether you're hitting the trails, working on your backhand, or simply soaking in some nature, Minor Park offers a little something for everyone without trying too hard to be everything to everybody.
