About the Location

History

Seven Oaks Park has been a Kansas City staple since 1948, when the city's Park Board set aside this green space after the Seven Oaks Community Council made their voices heard through community petitions.

What we now know as a neighborhood favorite started with the rather generic name of 39th and Jackson Park, before officially becoming Seven Oaks Park in 1953 - a name that better captured the community's identity and has stuck ever since.

Amenities

This park has a little something for everyone. Kids can burn off energy at the newly renovated playground, while sports enthusiasts have their pick of athletic fields and courts for basketball and tennis matches.

Need a break? You'll come across picnic tables dotted across the grounds - meant for a family lunch or catching up with friends. The accessible walking paths make for easy strolls, and there's plenty of open space to throw a frisbee, fly a kite, or just sprawl out on a blanket with a good book.

Water Features

When Kansas City summers turn up the heat, the park's splash pad becomes the place to be. Kids love running through the spraying water, making this cooling station a summertime favorite.

The clever placement next to the playground creates a wonderful recreational combo for families - your little ones can switch between climbing equipment and water play without missing a beat.

Facilities

Keep in mind that restroom options are limited to portable toilets that are typically available during the summer months. If you're planning a longer visit, you might want to plan accordingly.

The generous grounds are used for everything from casual picnics to community celebrations, with shopping and other amenities just a short distance away.

Historical Significance

There's more to Seven Oaks than just recreation. Right next door stands the historical Seven Oaks School from 1927, adding a touch of architectural charm to your visit. While no longer filled with students, this repurposed building now provides affordable senior housing - a thoughtful blend of preserving history while serving current community needs.

The park remains a significant green space in Kansas City's landscape, connecting recreation with the area's community heritage.
