Chambers Park

A Bit of History

Chambers Park bears the name of Jordan W. Chambers (1896-1962), a trailblazing figure in St. Louis history who broke barriers as the first Black person to serve as a Democratic Committeeman in the city. The park has been serving the JeffVanderLou neighborhood since 1966, covering 6.31 acres of green space.

Chambers wasn't just any civic leader - he was also a local businessman who owned the Peoples Undertaking Company and dedicated himself to organizing voters and improving conditions for Black residents throughout the city.

Cool Off & Play

One of the park's standout features is its swimming pool, which is completely free for St. Louis City residents (a pretty sweet deal if you ask us). During operating hours, a lifeguard keeps watch, making it a safe spot for everyone to cool down during those sweltering Missouri summers.

If swimming isn't your thing, you'll discover plenty of other ways to stay active. The basketball courts regularly host informal games and solo shooters practicing their jump shots. There are also well-maintained tennis courts, a baseball field, and even horseshoe pits if you're looking to try something a bit different.

Hang Out & Relax

For families with little ones, the relatively new playground offers a place for kids to climb, slide, and burn off some energy. Need a spot for lunch or a small gathering? You'll find picnic areas and a shelter available for use.

What makes Chambers Park special is its breathing room - the expansive open field gives you space to toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or just spread out a blanket and enjoy the day. This generous layout makes the park equally suitable for impromptu football games or peaceful afternoon reading sessions under the sky.
