About the Location
History and Origin
Established in 1924, the park was donated to the city by George W. Strodtman, a prominent North St. Louis businessman, in memory of his wife Genevieve.
Covering 13.73 acres, Strodtman Park is one of three parks in the Hyde Park area and contributes to the total 2,956 acres of park land in St. Louis.
Location and Setting
Strodtman Park is situated just west of Interstate 70, bordered by 13th Street to the east, 14th Street to the west, Branch Street to the north, and Palm Street to the south.
The park has a post-industrial feel, with former factories and warehouses surrounding it and few residential properties in the immediate vicinity.
Community Use
The park is primarily used by students from the nearby charter school located immediately south of the park.
Historically, Strodtman Park played a significant role in the community. For many years, the Grace Hill Settlement House sponsored softball leagues and day camps at the park.
A Strodtman Park newsletter was also published to inform children and adults about ongoing programs and events.
