About Coulson Park in Billings
Coulson Park is a 13-acre public park located along the banks of the Yellowstone River in Billings, Montana. The park offers visitors access to natural areas and recreational facilities within city limits.
Originally the site of Coulson, one of Billings' predecessor settlements, the park now preserves this historic location while providing modern amenities. Paved jogging and walking trails wind through the park, allowing visitors to exercise while taking in views of the river and surrounding landscape.
The park features a boat ramp, providing direct access to the Yellowstone River for fishing, kayaking, and other water activities. Picnic tables are available for visitors to enjoy outdoor meals in a scenic setting.
As an undeveloped natural area, Coulson Park maintains much of its native vegetation and habitat along the river corridor. This allows visitors to experience a more rustic, natural environment within an urban park setting. The park serves as an entry point to Billings for travelers arriving via Interstate 90, offering an appealing green space visible from the Yellowstone Bridge.
Coulson Park is currently undergoing phased development based on a master plan approved in 2020. Planned future amenities include historical markers, a bike park, sculpture installations, an off-leash dog area, and a covered arbor for small performances. The city aims to enhance river access and recreational opportunities while preserving the park's natural character.
