About the Location
Park Overview
Found in the corner of Wenninghoff Road and North 86th Street in Omaha, Nebraska, Somerset Park has been serving the neighborhood since 1994. It's a nice spot for nearby residents looking to stretch their legs or spend some quality time outdoors.
The park was recently renovated, updating the space. There's plenty of parking available, so you shouldn't have trouble finding a spot.
Amenities
Baseball enthusiasts will appreciate the two well-kept baseball/softball fields great for everything from casual weekend games to more organized league play.
If you've got kids in tow, the newly remodeled playground is a definite highlight. Instead of the typical mulch that inevitably finds its way into shoes and socks, this playground features sand surfaces - much more comfortable for little ones tumbling around. The equipment offers plenty of climbing and play options to keep children entertained.
Looking for something a bit more active? The newer sand volleyball courts have become quite a draw. The courts are a good place to enjoy a game on a nice Nebraska day.
Natural Features
One of the park's most charming elements is the creek that meanders alongside a walking path. It's just enough nature to help you decompress after a long day. This peaceful trail connects to the Keystone Trail, which has been extended northward into the park - perfect if you're looking for a longer walk or jog.
The open grassy areas are wonderfully versatile, accommodating impromptu kickball games or just providing space to throw down a blanket and soak up some sunshine.
Picnic Areas
The park's pavilion houses several picnic tables, making it an ideal spot for family get-togethers or small community gatherings. There are also barbecue grills available if you're in the mood for some outdoor cooking.
Just a heads-up: these picnic spots can fill up quickly during weekends and holidays, so arriving early is your best bet if you're planning to use them.
Pet Policies
Four-legged family members are welcome at Somerset Park, but they'll need to stay on leash throughout your visit. There's no designated off-leash area, but the walking paths offer plenty of opportunity for you and your pup to get some exercise together.
Management
The City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department keeps Somerset Park in tip-top condition, along with other public parks throughout Omaha.
One important thing to note before planning an extended visit: the park doesn't have permanent restroom facilities, so you might want to plan accordingly.
