About the Location
Historical Significance
Jaycee Community Park spans 18 acres in the heart of Las Vegas, Nevada. The park bears the name of Justice Myron E. Leavitt, a true Vegas local born in 1930 who spent his entire life in the Jaycee Park neighborhood.
Leavitt wasn't just a resident - he was the driving force behind Little League baseball in Las Vegas and poured his heart into coaching kids in various sports including American Legion baseball, Pop Warner football, basketball, and softball. Many of his coaching memories were made right here on these grounds.
Park Amenities
This park offers a mix of active recreation and peaceful relaxation spaces.
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the multiple sports fields for soccer and baseball, while those looking for something different can enjoy the pickleball courts, basketball courts, bocce ball areas, and horseshoe pits. There's also fitness equipment scattered throughout the park for an impromptu outdoor workout.
Playground and Water Features
Kids have plenty of room to burn energy at the two large playgrounds equipped with climbing structures and swings designed for different age groups. These play areas provide children with space to explore and play.
When the Vegas heat cranks up during summer, the splash pad becomes the park's hotspot. This water playground gives kids a great opportunity to cool down while having fun - a welcome retreat from those scorching desert temperatures.
Skate Park Features
A standout attraction is the 10,000-square-foot skate park, thoughtfully designed by SITE Design Group, Inc. and built by California Skateparks. It's more of a skate plaza than a traditional park, featuring a split-level street course complemented by various transition elements.
Skaters will find plenty of challenges with features like ledges, stairs, handrails, bank ramps, and a manual pad. Just about 15 minutes from the Strip, this skate haven offers options for beginners and experienced boarders alike. The designers thoughtfully used integral colored concrete to harmonize with the existing park aesthetics and shade structures.
Pet-Friendly Areas
Your four-legged friends haven't been forgotten - the park includes designated dog runs that appear relatively new and offer plenty of space for dogs to play and socialize safely behind fences.
Just remember to keep an eye on your pup, use leashes when outside the dog areas, and clean up after them to keep the park clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Picnic and Relaxation Areas
Throughout the grounds, you'll discover numerous shaded picnic areas with comfortable benches, including spots near the skate park. These make perfect gathering places for family meals or simply taking a breather between activities.
The park also features generous open grassy areas ideal for lounging, casual games, or just soaking in some outdoor time. When the sun gets intense, the shade structures and trees scattered throughout provide welcome relief, making Jaycee Community Park a year-round destination despite Vegas' famously warm climate.
