About the Location
Natural Setting
Nestled at the base of the Pah Rah mountain range, this 17-acre public park blends natural beauty with recreational fun. We love how the surrounding landscape creates a great backdrop for photos - bring your camera if you're into capturing those scenic views or spotting local wildlife!
The expansive green spaces and well-kept lawns offer a peaceful escape from city life. Even when it's busy, the park's spacious layout means you'll never feel like you're on top of other visitors.
Trails and Accessibility
Winding through sagebrush habitat, the park's well-maintained hiking trails are great for nature lovers wanting to explore local plants and animals. The 0.5-mile Pah Rah Interpretive Trail is paved and ADA accessible, making nature enjoyment possible for everyone.
This interpretive loop teaches you about the local ecosystem and features an outdoor classroom pavilion - pretty cool for impromptu learning moments. No matter if you're looking for a workout or just a casual walk, the multiple paths within the park offer plenty of options.
Playgrounds and Family Features
Kids will be thrilled with the multiple playground areas scattered around the park. There are four distinct playground zones - a large central playground with modern equipment and squishy safety tiles, plus three smaller playgrounds with wood chip surfaces.
During summer, the main playground gets shade coverings so little ones won't overheat on hot Nevada days. We appreciate the inclusive approach here too - there's a special needs swing and other accessible equipment ensuring all children can join in the fun.
The variety of swings includes options for toddlers, older kids, and those with mobility challenges. Parents, you'll love how the different play zones are designed with specific age groups in mind, making it easy to find the right spot for your child regardless of age.
Recreational Amenities
Pah Rah Mountain Park offers a variety of activities. The diverse terrain accommodates both leisurely strolls and more challenging hikes.
If you're into sports, you'll find two tennis courts in good shape, two half basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, and horseshoe pits.
Visitor Comfort
Across the park, you'll discover numerous picnic spots with tables and benches - well-suited for outdoor meals or just taking a breather. Need shelter? The park offers several covered picnic pavilions, including one near the restrooms and a larger one on the west side with multiple tables.
Clean restrooms are available, with men's, women's, and family facilities. You'll find drinking fountains and a seasonal bottle filling station near the restroom building, but we'd recommend bringing your own water during those scorching summer days.
Dog-Friendly Environment
Dog owners, rejoice! This park welcomes your four-legged friends. The trails make for great dog walks, and pet waste bag dispensers and trash cans are conveniently placed throughout. While your pup needs to stay leashed, the open grassy areas provide plenty of space for them to explore and get some exercise.
Community Value
There's something genuinely peaceful about this park that makes it a favorite escape from city life. Locals often come here for their regular exercise routines, quiet relaxation, or community get-togethers.
It's also become a go-to spot for birthday parties and special events, thanks to the multiple play areas and picnic facilities. Its location near Jerry Whitehead School makes it a popular after-school hangout for families.
Open year-round from 6AM to 10PM daily, Pah Rah Mountain Park lets you experience all the seasons in this high desert setting. No matter if you're a nearby resident or just passing through, the mix of accessibility and diverse amenities makes this park worth a visit for anyone looking to connect with nature or enjoy some outdoor recreation.
