Sheehan-Basquil Park
About Sheehan-Basquil Park
A Touch of Manchester History
Nestled at the corner of Maple and Auburn Streets, Sheehan-Basquil Park bears the names of two local heroes. Captain Jeremiah A. Sheehan, born October 8, 1911, gave his life during World War II on August 9, 1944, in Normandy at just 32 years old. He now rests in Brittany American Cemetery in St. James, France. The park also honors PFC James H. Basquil, born January 12, 1922, who died on November 12, 1944, after being wounded while serving with the 104th Infantry Regiment in the 26th Yankee Division.
What You'll Find Here
Spread across 8.4 acres, this green space is a popular spot for local youth sports and neighborhood recreation. Ray Cross Field functions as home base for the Manchester Pony League, while additional baseball diamonds and a soccer field offer plenty of space for athletes of all ages.
Hunt Pool is a summer staple, typically welcoming swimmers from 1-5 PM and again from 6-8 PM during the warmer months. Just a heads up - some visitors have mentioned that the pool building is occasionally closed, so you might want to check before planning your swimming adventure.
Cool Off and Play
The park's popular splash pad features water squirt guns and a giant bucket that fills gradually before drenching giggling kids (and sometimes adults!) below. The splash area is safely fenced and includes a small grassy patch meant for spreading out a blanket and enjoying a sandwich while the little ones play.
Right beside the water fun, you'll discover a uniquely designed playground with features you won't find everywhere else - like a four-person teeter-totter and a small hill that seems purpose-built for endless up-and-down running sessions. Swings are available too, keeping the younger crowd entertained for hours.
More to Enjoy
Fans of the fastest-growing sport in America will appreciate the six pickleball courts open for public use. A couple of picnic tables scattered throughout provide spots to rest, refuel, or just watch the action unfold around you.
Getting here is easy with two parking options: a smaller lot near the soccer court and a more spacious one by the baseball fields. Restroom facilities are basic - typically just a porta-potty in the parking area - so plan accordingly.
Beyond the Park
When you're ready to expand your adventure, a short walk will take you to a nearby plaza with various shops and the Sky Zone trampoline park. This green space is a common gathering spot for friends and families throughout Manchester.
