About the Location
History and Namesake
The park is named after two individuals: Captain Jeremiah A. Sheehan and PFC James H. Basquil. Captain Sheehan was born on October 8, 1911, and died on August 9, 1944, at the age of 32 during World War II.
He was killed in Normandy and is buried in Brittany American Cemetery St. James, France. PFC James H. Basquil was born on January 12, 1922, and died on November 12, 1944, after being wounded four days prior while serving in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Yankee Division.
Park Features
Sheehan-Basquil Park encompasses 8.4 acres of land at the corner of Maple Street and Auburn Street, offering a variety of recreational facilities for residents and visitors.
The park serves as a central hub for youth athletic leagues and neighborhood children. It features Ray Cross Field, which is home to the Manchester Pony League.
The park also includes Hunt Pool, which is typically open during summer months from 1 PM to 5 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM.
Recent Improvements
In recent years, the park has undergone renovations to enhance its facilities and appeal.
These improvements have included the addition of new amenities such as a splash pad and updated site furnishings.
