Tucked away in Albuquerque's northeast side, Sister Cities Park is a green space that celebrates something unique - our city's friendships around the world. Right at the entrance, you'll spot a sign highlighting ABQ's sister city relationships with places that might make you want to grab your passport: Alburquerque, Spain; Ashgabat, Turkmenistan; Chihuahua and Guadalajara in Mexico; Helmstedt, Germany; Hualien, Taiwan; Lanzhou, China; and Lusaka, Zambia. These connections represent formal agreements between Albuquerque and these international communities, establishing relationships across continents.

Sprawling across more than 3 acres, this park offers plenty of well-kept grassy areas well-suited for throwing down a blanket and enjoying lunch or just lounging with a good book. The paved walking paths meander through the grounds, ideal for those days when you want to stretch your legs without committing to a full-on hike. One of the park's notable features? The mature trees that create natural shade throughout - particularly welcome during those scorching New Mexico summer days.

Something for Everyone

If you've got kids in tow, the playground area features modern climbing structures that are well-maintained and safe. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the soccer field or try their hand at one of the four tennis courts. Fair warning about those tennis courts though - only one has a really good surface, while the others show their age a bit. Still, they get plenty of use from locals looking for a casual game.

Everyday Enjoyment

The park has become something of a dog-walking hotspot, with four-legged friends regularly enjoying the open spaces (though it's not an official dog park). You can find dog waste bags available, which helps keep the grounds clean for everyone. There are several picnic tables scattered throughout if you're planning to eat al fresco, but note that there aren't any BBQ pits available. And heads up - there are no restroom facilities here, so plan accordingly if you're thinking about a longer visit.

The Caravan Amateur Radio Club regularly holds "Radio Fun in the Park" events on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from May through September between 9-11 AM - a quirky and interesting activity you might not expect to find.
