About the Location
A Quiet Green Legacy
Tucked just outside the main entrance of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, Kaminski Park offers a breath of fresh air amid the urban medical landscape. This peaceful retreat came to life thanks to a $1 million gift from Waldemar J. Kaminski, a local businessman who lived simply but had quite the knack for investments.
What was once just an empty lot has blossomed into a two-acre green haven, where winding paths guide you past bubbling fountains, shade-giving trees, and colorful flower gardens that seem to whisper "take a moment to slow down."
Nature's Medicine
There's something deeply comforting about this space. Here, patients, their loved ones, visitors, and medical staff can step away from the sterile hospital environment and find a quiet corner to breathe. The park doesn't try to be flashy - it simply offers what we often need most during difficult times: a connection to something greater than ourselves.
You'll come across benches placed in just the right spots, inviting you to sit and watch the world go by for a while. The landscape transforms with each passing season, from spring blooms to summer shade, autumn colors to winter's quiet beauty, bringing a sense of time and continuity that can feel especially grounding during health challenges.
Beyond a Pretty Space
Kaminski Park works hard during the year. Beyond offering a tranquil escape, it transforms into a community gathering spot for Roswell Park's annual Tree of Hope celebration. During summer months, the park buzzes with weekly farmers markets where you can grab fresh produce and local goods. Occasionally, the space fills with music during outdoor concerts that bring a different kind of healing energy to the campus.
If you're visiting the medical campus and need to refuel, the park provides a lovely outdoor dining area connected to nearby cafes and eateries - because sometimes, eating a sandwich under a tree is exactly the break you need.
