Historical Background
Schiller Park is a 36-acre public park located in the East Side of Buffalo, New York. The park was officially established in 1912 and is named after German poet, historian, and philosopher Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller.
Situated between Genesee Street and Doat Street, Schiller Park serves as a centerpiece for the surrounding neighborhood, which also bears its name.
Park Development
The park was developed on land that was once rural farmland and fields, known for celery growing in the early 1900s. As the area rapidly urbanized, the park became an important recreational space for the community.
During the New Deal era, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) made significant improvements to the park, including the construction of the Schiller Parks Pools and Locker House. While the original pools have since been filled in, the locker house structure still stands as a reminder of the park's history.

Today, Schiller Park continues to be a vital green space for the East Side community of Buffalo. It offers a variety of recreational facilities and serves as a gathering place for local residents.
