About Grant Park

Athletic Facilities

Grant Park is a sports lover's paradise with a range of athletic options. You'll find baseball and softball fields that can be adapted for Little League and girls' softball games - just remember you'll need a permit to use these spaces.

Looking for something more spontaneous? The park's basketball courts, tennis courts, and handball/paddleball courts offer plenty of opportunities to break a sweat and have some fun.

Fitness and Recreation

Not big on organized sports? No problem. Grant Park has paths suitable for jogging, biking, or just taking a leisurely stroll. There are also workout stations scattered throughout the park where you can row, step-climb, and more.

The park features a lake where you can fish or walk along the concrete path that circles the water. When temperatures drop enough in winter, the lake transforms into an ice skating spot.

Family-Friendly Areas

For families visiting with children, Grant Park offers several options. The modern playground area is thoughtfully designed with three distinct sections for different age groups: one for the tiny tots (preschoolers), another for children ages 4-8, and a third for the 9-12 crowd.

During those hot summer days, the spray-pool area becomes a favorite spot for children to cool off and splash around. It typically stays open until Labor Day, so there's plenty of time to enjoy some water fun.

Picnic Areas

Fancy an outdoor meal? Grant Park offers several picnic areas complete with barbecue facilities. You can opt for the unreserved area if you're feeling spontaneous, or plan ahead and reserve one of the two designated areas (note that reserved spots require a Leisure Pass and come with a fee).

Wildlife and Natural Setting

Nature enthusiasts might be surprised by the park's feathered residents. Along with the usual urban birds, you might spot a colony of wild Quaker parrots feeding alongside pigeons. While these colorful visitors aren't tame, they add a delightful touch of the unexpected to your park experience.

The park provides a welcome green retreat with comfortable benches lining the pathways - well-suited for taking a moment to breathe in some fresh air amid the urban hustle.

Park Conditions

Like any well-used public space, Grant Park goes through occasional renovations to keep things in working order. Some areas might need a bit more TLC than others, and conditions can vary throughout the seasons. It's all part of the authentic New York park experience.
