About the Location
Breathtaking Views & Peaceful Waters
Stretching across 109 acres, Cobbs Hill Park blends active urban spaces with tranquil green retreats. At its heart sits the historic Cobbs Hill Reservoir, circled by a 0.7-mile paved path that offers a pleasant walk or gentle jog.
From this elevated perch, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Rochester skyline - particularly striking during sunset or when clouds roll in. You'll often spot photography enthusiasts capturing these stunning vistas. Down below, the peaceful Lake Riley offers a quiet spot to cast a fishing line or simply relax on its grassy banks.
Get Your Game On
Looking to burn some energy? The park offers softball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, and a well-designed playground. Kids will love the rubber-padded play areas - there are separate sections for little ones and older children, complete with rope climbing, bars, slides, swings, and even punching bags for the bigger kids.
There's also a teen fitness court where you can work out for free using modern equipment. Night owls will appreciate that all six tennis courts are illuminated for evening play.
Escape to Washington Grove
Just east of the reservoir lies Washington Grove, a 100-acre old-growth oak-hickory forest that feels worlds away from city life. This peaceful urban woodland, with its winding trails, is a haven for birdwatchers, hikers, and cross-country skiers alike.
The grove boasts unique glacial kettle formations and hosts an impressive variety of wildlife - bird enthusiasts have documented 142 different species over 18 years! The trails range from easy strolls to more challenging routes, so there's something for everyone regardless of your hiking experience.
Quiet Locations
Near Washington Grove, you'll come across the abandoned water towers that have been transformed into an ever-changing gallery of local street art. The graffiti displays rotate regularly, showcasing Rochester's vibrant artistic community. Curious visitors who step inside will discover some fascinating acoustics.
When snow blankets the ground, the park transforms into a sledding paradise with hills of various steepness - excellent for thrill-seekers and cautious sliders alike. Summer brings picnickers out in droves, with numerous spots featuring grills that are ideal for cookouts and family gatherings.
Plan Your Event
Need a space for your next celebration? Lake Riley Lodge and Tay House Lodge can be rented for larger get-togethers. Both come equipped with heating, air conditioning, a cozy fireplace, and kitchen facilities. Lake Riley Lodge is especially popular for winter birthday parties - the sledding hills are literally right outside the door!
With its clever layout divided between lower recreational areas and the upper reservoir zone, Cobbs Hill Park offers something for everyone - regardless of whether you're looking to play an active game, enjoy a peaceful nature walk, or simply sit and take in the view. The park is open daily from 6AM to 9PM year-round.
