About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away in southern Kannapolis, North Carolina, Vietnam Veterans Park (formerly North Cabarrus Park) spreads across 90 acres of recreational bliss. Opened in 2002, this green haven came to life through a collaboration between Cabarrus County, the City of Kannapolis, and the Church of God Children's Home.
Today, Cabarrus County manages this tranquil escape that perfectly balances natural beauty with developed amenities. If you're planning a family day out, looking for a spot to break a sweat, or just need a peaceful moment to yourself, this park has plenty to offer.
Trails and Natural Features
Feel like stretching your legs? The park's 1.2-mile walking trail meanders through the grounds, offering a great path for your morning jog or afternoon stroll. The trail's well-maintained surface makes it accessible for most fitness levels.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the wetlands trail and boardwalk that showcase the area's diverse ecosystems. If you're up for a longer adventure, the trails connect to the Irish Buffalo Creek Greenway, extending your journey beyond the park itself.
At the heart of the park sits a picturesque pond with a fountain that functions as its centerpiece. The boardwalk and bridge let you lean over to spot the numerous turtles, fish, and waterfowl that call this place home. Bring some quarters for the coin-operated feed dispensers if you'd like to make some aquatic friends during your visit.
Recreational Facilities
Sports fans have plenty of options here. Challenge friends to a game on the two basketball courts, spike a ball over the net at the two sand volleyball courts, or test your aim at the 9-hole disc golf course that accommodates both beginners and more experienced players.
Kids won't be asking "What's next?" with the park's multiple playgrounds designed for different age groups. The larger playground features a protective sun shade canopy (parents, rejoice!), while another boasts a fun pirate theme. From swings to slides and climbing structures, there's something for tiny tots and bigger kids alike.
Looking for something more low-key? Spread out a blanket at one of the picnic shelters (you can reserve some in advance) or picnic sites, or gently rock on the free-standing bench swings. There are also horseshoe pits for those who enjoy a bit of friendly competition, and a small fenced dog park where your four-legged companion can run free.
Visitor Information
The park welcomes visitors seven days a week from 8AM to 8PM.
You'll come across clean restroom facilities across the grounds, including changing tables that make life easier for those visiting with little ones.
Staying hydrated is simple with water fountains that thoughtfully include built-in dog bowls - perfect if you're bringing your leashed pets along for the adventure.
Vietnam Veterans Park provides a retreat from the everyday hustle. With its blend of recreational options and natural spaces, it's a popular spot for locals throughout the year, whether for quiet moments alone or gatherings with friends and family.
