About the Location

A Green Haven in the City

Positioned on nearly 50 acres of lush greenery, Valley Springs Park offers a peaceful retreat from Durham's urban bustle. Since opening in 1992, this spacious park has become a favorite spot for locals seeking fresh air and open space. The grounds are well-kept and quiet - meant for when you need a dose of nature without venturing far from the city.

Disc Golf Paradise

Perhaps the crown jewel of Valley Springs is its impressive 22-hole disc golf course that weaves through beautiful hardwood forest. With moderate hills and natural obstacles, it offers just enough challenge to keep things interesting without frustrating newer players.

We love that there are three different tee layouts depending on your skill level - whether you're just starting out or can throw like a pro, you'll find a course that suits you. The abundant tree cover keeps things cool even during those sticky North Carolina summer days, and you rarely have to wait long for your turn. Just remember to wear sturdy shoes - those rocks and roots aren't friendly to flip-flops!

Sports Fields for Every Athlete

Not into disc golf? No problem. There are several well-maintained baseball and softball fields with lights for evening games. The grounds are kept in excellent condition, making for a great playing experience.

There are also soccer fields available, but they're occasionally locked. When open, they provide plenty of room to kick a ball around or organize a proper match.

Kid-Friendly Fun

If you're bringing the little ones along, they'll enjoy the playground that's best suited for children between 4 and 12 years old. The equipment is in great shape and sits in a clean, open area. While it might not have the best options for toddlers, elementary-aged kids will have a blast.

The paved paths within the park are smooth enough for bikes and scooters, making it accessible for visitors of various abilities and fantastic for teaching the kids to ride.

Perfect for Picnics

Looking for a spot to unwind? The park's picnic areas come complete with covered shelters and tables where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch. There are grills available too, so you can cook up some burgers while enjoying the surroundings - ideal for family gatherings or casual weekend outings.

Natural Beauty

One of the park's simple pleasures is its natural setting. With both wooded areas and open spaces, it's a great place for a refreshing walk or a moment of quiet contemplation. You'll find nice trails throughout, although be aware that some might be challenging with a stroller due to tree roots.

Practical Amenities

For convenience, Valley Springs offers all-gender restrooms, however they're pretty basic - nothing fancy here. You'll come across water fountains scattered about, and there's plenty of parking available, with some shaded spots if you're lucky enough to snag one.
