History and Origin
Wrightwood Park is a 12.85-acre public park located in West Central Durham, North Carolina. The park was established in 1941 when the heirs of Richard Wright donated 17 acres of land on Anderson Street for community use.
Richard Wright was known for his philanthropic efforts, having previously donated funding to establish a school for neglected children in Durham, which was later named the Wright School.
Recreational Facilities
The park features a variety of recreational facilities and natural spaces for visitors to enjoy. In September 2021, the playground structure was updated, providing modern equipment for children aged 2-12.
The park also includes baseball and softball fields suitable for youth sports, making it a popular destination for local teams and families.
