About the Location

Garden History

The Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden is a 7.5-acre public garden located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Established in 1976 to commemorate the United States Bicentennial, this botanical haven has since become a cherished community space and popular destination for both locals and visitors.

Botanical Collections

The garden is known for its diverse plant collections and meticulously designed landscapes. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy vibrant annual plantings that change with the seasons, providing a constantly evolving display of colors and textures.

Perennials, flowering trees, and shrubs further enhance the garden's beauty and horticultural interest.

Water Features

A key feature of the garden is its man-made re-circulating stream, which adds movement, texture, and soothing sounds to the landscape. In 2017, an Old Mill feature was added, reminiscent of a mill that David Caldwell operated on this site in the 1780s.

This addition includes a free-standing water wheel that works in conjunction with the re-circulating stream, providing both educational and aesthetic value.

Art and Amenities

The garden includes a wedding gazebo, making it a sought-after venue for ceremonies and special events. Bronze sculptures are strategically placed throughout the grounds, offering artistic and historical points of interest for visitors to discover.

Visitor Information

The garden is open year-round from 8AM to 5PM daily. Admission is free, making it an accessible destination for all members of the community.

The Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden serves not only as a place of beauty and relaxation but also as an educational resource, offering opportunities for visitors to learn about horticulture, local history, and environmental stewardship.
