About the Location
Park Overview
Located in North Raleigh, Baileywick Park spans a generous 50 acres of community space that's been bringing locals together since 1995. This green area includes active sports areas and peaceful wooded trails. You might find yourself starting with a morning walk and staying longer than planned as you discover different areas of the park.
Trails and Connectivity
If you're looking to get some steps in, the paved walking trail begins right at the Baileywick Road entrance and takes you on a scenic loop behind the playground before circling back to the parking lot. This path is actually part of the Baileywick Greenway Trail - a 0.6-mile connector that links Strickland Road to Baileywick Road.
The greenway conveniently passes through the park and leads right to Baileywick Elementary School - well-suited for families with school-aged kids. For those days when you want a more natural experience, the unpaved wooded trails meander through greenery, providing a quiet alternative to the paved paths.
Recent Improvements
Thanks to the 2014 Parks Bond Referendum, Baileywick Park has received several updates in recent years. The park now features an open-air multi-use pavilion and a thoughtfully designed dog park with partial tree cover and secure fencing.
The improvements didn't stop there - you'll also find expanded parking options, refreshed landscaping throughout, and renovations to both the restroom facilities and the picnic shelter.
Sports Facilities
The Baileywick Multi-Sport Pavilion allows for basketball and pickleball under cover - protecting players from both rain and sun.
The park also houses two well-lit baseball/softball fields and a versatile multipurpose field that hosts everything from casual frisbee tosses to organized flag football games. The fields are well-maintained and used by both local leagues and for casual pick-up games.
Children's Areas
Young explorers have plenty of options here with playgrounds featuring wood chip surfaces designed specifically for different age groups (2-5 and 5-12 years). The play areas feature jungle gyms, slides, and swings - including seats for the little ones.
The sandbox tends to be a hit with creative kiddos, offering hours of entertainment. Having separate sections for different age ranges ensures that both toddlers and older children can play safely and appropriately.
Dog-Friendly Spaces
Behind the pavilion, you can find the newer addition to the park - a dedicated dog park with thoughtfully separate areas for small and large dogs. It's a fantastic spot for your four-legged friends to burn off energy and make some canine companions.
The entire park welcomes leashed dogs, making it a favorite for daily walks with furry family members. You'll spot dog waste stations with bags within the grounds - a thoughtful touch that helps keep the park clean for everyone.
Picnic and Gathering Areas
When hunger strikes, head to one of the many picnic spots, including a large covered shelter with tables. These shaded havens are ideal for everything from impromptu lunches to planned birthday celebrations.
The picnic areas are strategically positioned near the playgrounds and sports facilities, so adults can keep an eye on the kids while enjoying some shade. Clean restrooms are just a short walk away - always a plus when spending the day outdoors.
Accessibility and Amenities
You can find plenty of parking at Baileywick, although it can fill up quickly during tournaments or beautiful weekend afternoons. The park maintains clean restroom facilities throughout, and water fountains are available in select areas to keep you hydrated.
After a game or brisk walk, you can catch your breath at one of the many shaded seating areas scattered across the park - perfect little spots to relax and take in the natural surroundings.
