Natural Features
Strickland Road Park is a 36.1-acre green space located in northwest Raleigh, North Carolina. Established in 1998, the park is situated west of the intersection of Ray Road and Strickland Road.
Nature trails meander through the property, offering visitors a chance to explore the natural surroundings. Two small ponds add to the park's scenic appeal, providing habitats for local wildlife and opportunities for quiet contemplation.
Playground Areas
A key attraction of the park is its playground, which caters to children of various age groups. The play area is divided into sections suitable for tots and young children ages 2-12, ensuring age-appropriate recreational opportunities.
The playground equipment includes a large jungle gym with monkey bars, slides, and climbing areas for older children, while a separate sandy area with a fun slide is available for younger ones. For the comfort of parents and guardians, the park provides benches near the playground, allowing for easy supervision.
The swingset area features a spongy surface, which is particularly beneficial for younger children.
Future Developments
While the park currently offers these amenities, there are plans for future expansions. The 2009 Master Plan outlines potential additions including a neighborhood center, youth multipurpose field, half-court basketball area, restrooms, picnic shelter, boardwalks along the pond, and additional trails.
As of 2025, the park is undergoing improvements as part of a joint project with Leesville Community Park. The planned enhancements include a new restroom building, an accessible paved path and overlook area, parking lot improvements, stormwater management upgrades, new playground surfacing, and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations.
