Kaplan Drive Park

Natural Features

Located between I-440, Kaplan Drive, and a residential neighborhood, this 5.19-acre park provides a quiet escape from the city.

A small stream runs through the loop, with two bridges crossing over it. This waterway makes for nice spots to observe nature and watch for wildlife.

The park has heavily wooded areas with a variety of trees that display beautiful colorful foliage during seasonal changes. The trees provide good shade on hot days and offer an opportunity to identify different species.

Trails and Fitness

A 0.26-mile paved loop trail winds its way through the park, making it ideal for a quick morning jog, an afternoon power walk, or just a leisurely stroll to clear your mind.

If you're looking to add some variety to your outdoor workout, you'll find ten fitness stations dotted along the path, complete with QR codes that link to exercise demonstrations. Need a breather? Rest benches appear about every 1/3 mile along the trail.

Just a heads-up: in some spots, tree roots have pushed through cracks in the sidewalk. Watch your step, especially if you're with little ones who might trip over these natural obstacles.

Recreation Areas

The park features two large open fields: one situated near Kaplan Drive and another just below I-440's tree line. These grassy expanses are great for throwing a frisbee around, playing a game of tag, or simply spreading out a blanket for some cloud-watching.

In the heart of the park sits a small playground where kids can climb and explore, but you won't find any swings here. It's a nice spot for families to let the little ones burn off some energy while parents take a break.

You'll find clean restroom facilities conveniently located near the playground area - always a plus when spending time outdoors.

The park also provides access to the greenway trail system, connecting you to Raleigh's broader network of trails if you're in the mood for a longer adventure.

Parking is available but limited, which can be a bit tricky during peak times. Despite its urban location, the park maintains a tranquil atmosphere, making it a quiet retreat when you need a moment with nature.
