About the Location

Historical Significance

Meadowbrook Park is a historic 120-acre public park located near Garner, Wake County, North Carolina, approximately 3.5 miles from Garner's town center. The park was formerly the site of Meadowbrook Country Club, which was founded in 1959 as a private country club for African Americans.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 due to its historical significance. The site is recognized as one of the first Golf Club Associations in the State of North Carolina that allowed African Americans to become active club members.

Park Development

In 2016, the Town of Garner purchased the former Meadowbrook Country Club and Golf Course with the intention of transforming it into a public park. The Town has been working on developing this property into a park that provides recreation to citizens while preserving and promoting its historical significance.

As of 2020, conceptual plans for the park's development were released, pending community feedback. The park is intended to expand Garner's park system and provide a recreation resource in an area that previously lacked such facilities.

Natural Features

The park features gently rolling hills and wooded areas, with a lake located on the north end of the property. The topography is generally flat, making it suitable for various recreational activities.
