Located in downtown Wilmington at the corner of 3rd and Chestnut Streets, Story Park brings the joy of learning outside the walls of its neighbor, the New Hanover County Main Library. This outdoor space combines curiosity and play in an open-air setting.

Gardens That Tell Tales

Wander through four demonstration gardens that not only look pretty. Each one showcases different plant varieties, giving you a chance to get up close with nature without leaving the city. If you're a plant enthusiast or just appreciate a good bloom, these living exhibits have something to offer.

Make Some Noise, Follow a Story

Ever wanted to try your hand at outdoor instruments? Large musical instruments are scattered throughout the park, inviting everyone to create their own melodies - no music lessons required! For families with little ones, the StoryWalk® feature turns reading into an adventure as pages from children's picture books line a walking path through the park.

Game On

Chess enthusiasts will appreciate the life-sized chess and checkers board, where strategic thinking meets outdoor fun. The park combines education, nature, music, literature, and play in one accessible green space in the heart of downtown.

When to Visit

The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 6PM, giving you plenty of time to explore all it has to offer. Its connection to the public library allows for a nice transition between indoor learning and outdoor exploration.
