About the Location
Interactive Learning Space
Story Park is an interactive outdoor space located in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina at the corner of 3rd and Chestnut Streets, adjacent to the New Hanover County Main Library. The park extends the library experience outdoors, featuring hands-on learning opportunities for visitors of all ages.
Garden Features
The park includes four demonstration gardens showcasing different plant varieties. These gardens provide visitors with the opportunity to observe and learn about various plant species in a natural setting.
Musical and Literary Elements
Large musical instruments that visitors can play are scattered throughout the park, providing an interactive musical element. A StoryWalk® installation allows families to read pages from children's picture books posted along a walking path through the park.
Recreation Options
For games and recreation, Story Park has a life-sized chess and checkers board. The park aims to blend education, nature, music, literature and play in an accessible public green space in the heart of downtown Wilmington.
Park Hours
Story Park is open daily from 6AM to 6PM, allowing visitors to enjoy the outdoor amenities throughout the day. Its location next to the public library makes it a natural extension of the library's educational mission into an open-air setting.
